simple instrument

heavy like morning
jarring like wake up
that heavy open metal
that furnace fused curve
thick skirt to hide
under
that shape of birthing
as iron as chains

that alarm
that sound

that thing
that deep and elevated symbol
in the middle of the town square

that reminds the people
what they know
time to
